Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Seniors?

SeniorsThere is no question that the nation of America is becoming older. With the growing rate of individuals over 50-60 in America, there is also a growing rate of medical care and prescription medications. A great alternative to dangerous medical procedures and prescription drugs is chiropractic care. However, many wonder if chiropractic care is even safe for those who are older and more delicate.

Chiropractic care is completely safe for the population of seniors today, and it is also a great alternative treatment that can be used for various problems and issues that the aging population faces. There are many changes that occur as you age, this includes problems with your muscles, dehydration of ligaments and facet joints, which can lead to weakness and the inability to withstand every day, normal stresses. These problems result in many seniors experiencing pain, a reduced range of motion and weakness.

Not only do many seniors face chronic pain every day from back pain and arthritis, but many seniors are at risk for injuries. Since the bones become weaker with age, injuries are much more common. Something as simple as tripping on a rug can result in breaking a hip, which is extremely dangerous for older individuals. Studies show that every one in four seniors will fall each year, which may create new injuries, or aggravate existing ones. With chiropractic care, mobility and flexibility are improved in the joints and spine, which decreases the risk of falling.

Chiropractic care offers a non-surgical method to seek spinal care for seniors. This helps them avoid invasive surgery and medications that may actually be painful. A chiropractor will use proven techniques that are gentle in order to manipulate, adjust, and stretch the joints that have been displaced and use stretches to elongate shortened muscles. This will reduce the amount of pain that an individual experiences and helps to restore the flexibility, as well as the range of movement.

Remember, just because you are getting older does not mean you should be forced to feel the age within your bones. The fact is that chiropractic care is both safe and effective for senior citizens. It can play a major role in maintaining and restoring spinal function. It is also helpful to use chiropractic techniques to promote mobility, vitality, endurance, and overall general health at any age. If you are unsure if chiropractic care is right for you, you should talk with a chiropractor about the procedures and techniques they would use.
